SUMMARY:For Love! For Liberty!  Brings Revolutionary History to Life in Lexington
DESCRIPTION:For Love! For Liberty! a new musical celebrating courage\, sacrifice\, and the birth of the American Revolution will come to Lexington for one day\, Saturday\, April 11. \nBlending original music\, dance\, and powerful storytelling\, For Love! For Liberty! bridges centuries as middle-school history students help the U.S. Park Service bring the past to life. \nAt the heart of the musical is the true story of Henry Knox\, a young Boston bookseller who in the winter of 1775–1776 undertook an almost impossible mission: hauling sixty tons of cannon across frozen lakes and snow-covered mountains to save the struggling American Revolution. \nThe production also shines a light on the remarkable woman\, Lucy Knox\, who defied her loyalist family\, sacrificed her fortune\, and sustained Henry’s courage through letters and cake. \nFilled with memorable songs\, lively choreography\, and engaging historical characters\, the show is designed to inspire audiences of all ages while illuminating one of the most dramatic moments in Revolutionary history. The show had its world premiere in January 2026 and brought to Lexington as part of the MA 250 Revolutionary celebration and the Scottish Rites Masonic Museum and Library’s 50th anniversary. \nFamilies\, history lovers\, and community members are encouraged to attend this unique theatrical experience that brings the American Revolution vividly to life. \nEvent Details:\nFor Love! For Liberty!\nSaturday\, April 11\n4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.\nScottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library\n33 Marrett Road\, Lexington\, MA

SUMMARY:Cary Lecture Series: Not Born A Democracy with Martha Minow
DESCRIPTION:Recent experience has shaken our faith in the solidity of our democratic institutions and in the\nConstitution itself. We’ve discovered that critical pre-conditions for effective self-government have turned out to be weak or missing in action\, and right now our constitutional system can even stand in the way of making necessary changes. \nIn this talk\, Professor Martha Minow will focus on several of the preconditions that stand in jeopardy: education; reliable news; security against lethal violence; and reciprocity—that is\, confidence in our economic and political institutions.

SUMMARY:The American Revolution and the Fate of the World
DESCRIPTION:“The American Revolution and the Fate of the World” \nMonday\, April 13\, 1:15 pm \nBrookhaven at Lexington and by Zoom \nPresented by Dr. Richard Bell\, Professor of History \nUniversity of Maryland \nThe American Revolution was not only the colonies’ triumphant liberation from the rule of an overbearing England; it was also a cataclysm that pulled in participants from around the globe and threw the entire world order into chaos. Repositioning the Revolution at the center of an international web\, Bell’s narrative ranges as far afield as India\, Africa\, Central America\, and Australia. As his lens widens\, the “War of Independence” manifests itself as a sprawling struggle that upended the lives of millions of people on every continent and fundamentally transformed the way the world works\, disrupting trade\, restructuring penal systems\, stirring famine\, and creating the first global refugee crisis. Bell conveys the impact of these developments at home and abroad by grounding the narrative in the gripping stories of individuals—including women\, minorities\, and other disenfranchised people. The result is an unforgettable and unexpected work of American history that shifts everything we thought we knew about our creation story.

SUMMARY:Armenian Film IN THE LAND OF ARTO: East Coast premiere at Belmont World Film
DESCRIPTION:In tribute to Armenian Heritage Month\, Belmont World Film is screening the East Coast premiere of IN THE LAND OF ARTO\, as part of its 24th International Film Series. \nThe screening will be followed immediately by a discussion led by Diana Hayrapetyan\, Professor of Armenian at Harvard University and a PhD candidate at the Strassler Center for Holocaust Studies at Clark University. \nThe feature film debut of director Tamara Stepanyan is set in Armenia\, including the region of Nagorno-Karabakh\, the site of the ethnic and territorial conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan\, inhabited mostly by ethnic Armenians until their expulsion in 2023\, and the seven surrounding districts\, inhabited mostly by Azerbaijanis until their expulsion during the 1990s.  The film stars Camille Cottin (Call My Agent\, House of Gucci) as a wife who travels to Armenia to legalize her husband’s death\, only to learn that he lied about his military service\, that he fought in the war\, usurped his identity\, and that his former friends consider him a deserter. \nBelmont World Film’s 24th International Film Series\, “Thicker Than Water\,” runs Mondays at 7:00 PM at the West Newton Cinema through May 18. After a two-week break\, the series continues with the observance of Pride Month on June 1 and World Refugee Awareness Month on June 8 and 15. The films in this year’s series\, which are followed by engaging discussions led by filmmakers and expert speakers\, explore the ties that bind—and sometimes limit—through an intimate and far-reaching collection of stories about families in all their complexity. They span four continents and feature ten different languages\, including Arabic\, Armenian\, Greek\, Darija\, Dutch\, French\, Greek\, Greenlandic\, Quechua\, Spanish\, and Ukrainian—reflecting the many voices and vantage points that shape our shared human story.. All of the selections were official entries at the world’s major film festivals\, with several receiving top honors.
