SUMMARY:Lexington Tea Burning Reenactment

SUMMARY:A Classical Bridge to Metal— From Classical Symphonies to Screaming Guitars
DESCRIPTION:How did we get from the 18th Century Symphonies of Mozart and Hayden to the Classically influenced harmony and scales of Savatage and Uli John Roth in the late 70s? What connects the violin and bow of Paganini to Yngwie Malmsteen’s Stratocaster and Marshall stacks? What laid the groundwork musically and what set the path in terms of instrumental technique? There are so many connections and commonalities between heavy metal and Western classical music: some examples include certain aspects of rhythm and harmony\, the use of percussion\, vocal styles\, and a whole range of lyrical themes including spirituality both dark and bright\, political promotion\, political protest\, and storytelling of epic grandeur! Through lecture and performance we will explore various pieces and excerpts and demonstrate techniques on various guitars from classical guitar to 8-string electric. Tim will bring it full circle by giving a demonstration of a classical work played on electric guitar\, a practice in certain styles of metal\, most overtly showing connection and homage! \nTim Pence is a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist\, composer\, and educator\, who has performed throughout the U.S. and whose music has been performed around the world. His music has been performed by groups such as the Galveston Symphony\, The Chagall Performance Arts Collaborative\, The Triton Brass Quintet\, and The New Lullaby Project\, in venues from Boston’s Jordan Hall to the Lyon Opera House in France. His guitar music has been performed across the U.S. and also in Canada\, France\, Greece\, and Russia by numerous guitarists including Robert P. Sullivan\, Socrates Leptos\, and the ALC Project whose recording Drifting featured one of Pence’s pieces\, The Sleeping Guitar\, called by the American Record Guide (Jan/Feb 2022 Edition) “lovely\, very welcome.” He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he majored in classical guitar performance under the tutelage of David Leisner.

SUMMARY:Becoming Janet: Finding Myself in the Holocaust
DESCRIPTION:Becoming Janet: Finding Myself in the Holocaust \nPresented by Janet Singer Applefield\, Holocaust Survivor \nMonday\, January 12\, 2026  –  1:15 pm  –  Brookhaven at Lexington \n  \nOn September 1\, 1939\, when Germany invaded Poland\, with nowhere to run or hide\, Gustawa Singer’s parents gave her away to save her life. For the next several years\, 7-year-old Gustawa lived a clandestine existence\, harboring a secret that her looks hid so well: she was Jewish. Passed between strangers with both honorable and deceitful intentions\, Gustawa maneuvered through terrifying situations with only the identity papers of a deceased Polish girl and a well-rehearsed cover story. She came to learn the importance of secrecy and resilience. Her quick wits and the courage of a few virtuous individuals combined to beat the odds. By the end of the war\, over 90% of her town’s Jews were annihilated; Janet was one of the few children to return. \nOn Monday\, January 12\, 2026\, at Brookhaven at Lexington\, 1010 Waltham Street\, Janet will discuss her book and tell her personal story. Free and open to the public\, this event is sponsored by the Lexington Veterans Association.  The program starts with coffee and conversation at 12:45 pm\, with the talk at 1:15 pm.  If you plan to attend via Zoom\, find the Zoom link at lexmavets.com. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Town Hazard Mitigation Plan Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Public Meeting to Identify Natural Hazard Risks and Mitigation Strategies \nCan Lexington experience flooding\, tornadoes\, or earthquakes? What are the most serious risks facing our community—and what can be done to reduce their impacts? \nThe Town of Lexington is updating its Hazard Mitigation Plan\, a critical document that identifies natural hazard risks facing the community and outlines actions to reduce damage to people\, property\, infrastructure\, and the environment. As part of this process\, the Town invites residents\, business owners\, and community members to participate in a public meeting to share local knowledge and priorities. \nCommunity input is essential to identifying which hazards pose the greatest risks\, which areas of town are most vulnerable\, and what mitigation actions residents would like the Town to pursue. While natural hazards such as winter storms\, heavy rainfall\, high winds\, and earthquakes cannot be prevented\, proactive planning can significantly reduce their impacts. \nThe public is encouraged to attend the first of two public meetings on the Hazard Mitigation Plan Update. \nLink: https://lexingtonma.zoom.us/j/86877666199?pwd=QUTdKarDai8KSoTcpHZLnKOONwRUyU.1
