Beyond Paul Revere’s ride and marching columns of redcoats\, the day was marked by ambushes\, seized wagons\, rebels hiding in cornfields\, and fierce fighting starting at  the “Foot of the Rocks.” \nOn Saturday\, March 7 at 2:00 PM\, the Old Schwamb Mill invites the public to The Road Where It Happened: Version 2.0\, an informal illustrated talk by local historian Doreen Stevens. The program explores the lesser-known stories\, myths\, and meanings surrounding some of the deadliest fighting of the first day of the American Revolution. \nStevens will focus on the experiences of local residents and militia members\, including Benjamin Locke of Foot of the Rocks\, who led the Menotomy Minutemen up and down “The Road Where It Happened.” By examining contemporary accounts and later interpretations\, the talk invites audiences to reconsider how history is remembered\, retold\, and rooted in place. \nNeighboring the Foot of the Rocks park\, the historic Old Schwamb Mill hosts this program which offers a unique opportunity to connect Arlington’s Revolutionary past with the landscape where it unfolded.

Our front entrance is accessible\, and once inside you will find an elevator that goes up to Clark Hall. There is free parking in our back lot where there are ADA parking spots\, and there are two more such parking spots on the side of our building.

Journey through Nordic history\, starting with the Vikings and the influences their trade practices had on traditional cooking practices through to the food tradition of the local indigenous people of the north before ending with the modern culinary movement birthed in the early aughts. \n  \nClass Menu: \n\nSimple porridge of savory oats with cheese\, dried fruit\, and meat\nDried salted cod\nBlood In The Snow: skyr (yogurt) with fresh pressed ginger and beetroot juice\nSelection of lactofermented pickled vegetables with butter and light caraway rye bread\nGravlax served on rye bread with mustard sauce\, pickled onion\, and dill\nFinnbiff with potatoes (traditional Sami meat and mushroom dish)\nSwedish cardamom buns\n\n  \nAbout Chef Emily Taylor: \nChef Emily has been dabbling in the food industry ever since a fateful dinner at Ten Tables back in 2007 where she was served a simple Spanish squash soup that was so inspiring she just had to figure out how to make it herself. Since then she has continued to explore cultures and regions through travel and food. After an extended journey through Scandinavia\, the Nordics and northern Europe in 2018\, she became enamoured with the ability of Nordic cuisine to be traditional\, cozy and yet at times deeply sophisticated. Determined to fill the Nordic food gap in the Boston area\, she began holding annual Hyggefest suppers at home for lucky friends\, and most recently held several popular Nordic Cafe popups at local farm-to-table restaurant\, Urban Hearth. DESCRIPTION:Love Now will feature a vibrant lineup of artists — musicians\, singers\, dancers and poets — whose performances reflect the rich and diverse cultural community found in Lexington and throughout America today. \nThe program includes performances by the Lexington Children’s Chorus\, the Bharathakalai School of Dance\, the Encore Dance Ensemble\, the Trail Mix folk ensemble\, the Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL) chorale group and poet and performer Regie O’Hare Gibson\, the Inaugural Massachusetts Poet Laureate. There will also be a performance by the Special Needs Arts Programs (SNAP) Chorus\, a program that provides people with disabilities opportunities that celebrate each person’s unique abilities.

Our front entrance is accessible\, and once inside you will find an elevator that goes up to Clark Hall. There is free parking in our back lot where there are ADA parking spots\, and there are two more such parking spots on the side of our building. \nOur Noontime Concert Series is generously supported by the Creative Expressions program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council. This grant enables us to hire top notch musicians and present them to you free of charge!

The webinar link will be provided in the Munroe Arts monthly newsletter out later in March. \nEVENT DETAILS:  \nThis Community Conversation has been created to share information about the proposed plans for a summer stage at the Munroe Center for the Arts\, and to engage residents\, neighbors\, and stakeholders in conversation about their ideas and concerns for the proposed space.  \nThe gathering will begin with a brief overview of the Munroe Center for the Arts\, followed by a presentation of project designs that incorporate feedback that has been received to date from the community. For Liberty! bridges centuries as middle-school history students help the U.S. Park Service bring the past to life. \nAt the heart of the musical is the true story of Henry Knox\, a young Boston bookseller who in the winter of 1775–1776 undertook an almost impossible mission: hauling sixty tons of cannon across frozen lakes and snow-covered mountains to save the struggling American Revolution. \nThe production also shines a light on the remarkable woman\, Lucy Knox\, who defied her loyalist family\, sacrificed her fortune\, and sustained Henry’s courage through letters and cake. \nFilled with memorable songs\, lively choreography\, and engaging historical characters\, the show is designed to inspire audiences of all ages while illuminating one of the most dramatic moments in Revolutionary history. We’ve discovered that critical pre-conditions for effective self-government have turned out to be weak or missing in action\, and right now our constitutional system can even stand in the way of making necessary changes. \nIn this talk\, Professor Martha Minow will focus on several of the preconditions that stand in jeopardy: education; reliable news; security against lethal violence; and reciprocity—that is\, confidence in our economic and political institutions.
