DESCRIPTION:Parades\, pageants\, and pandemonium have defined the many commemorations of the 1775 Battle of Lexington and the first shots of the War for Independence. Over the centuries\, thousands of people have descended upon the Battle Green to welcome Revolutionary War heroes like the Marquis de Lafayette on his tour of America in 1824. The anniversaries of the battle offered them a glimpse of President Grant in 1875 and a word from President Ford in 1975. On this land\, protestors have sat and monuments have been built to the fallen. Join a Lexington Historical Society educator as they illuminate 250 years of stories full of crowds\, chaos\, and celebrations!\n\nStarting and ending at Buckman Tavern\, this tour explores areas around the Lexington Battle Green. The tour is 1 hour long and covers about a half-mile on flat ground.\n\nSpace is limited to 20 people. Ticket sales end at 6 p.m. the evening before the tour.\n\n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers

Learn about the troop movements of the Lexington Militia and the British Regulars as you visit Buckman Tavern\, Lexington Common (site of the Battle of Lexington)\, and Munroe Tavern. Come see what life was like for Lexingtonians in the 18th Century!\n\nFor rising 3rd – 6th graders.\n\nThis year\, choose from July 14 – 18\, or August 18 – 22\, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. daily.\n\nPricing\n$275 per child for members\, $350 per child for nonmembers. Over the course of the class\, students will showcase their imagination by adapting the well-known board game and stage production Clue into a short film. SUMMARY:Death of Democracy After WWI in Germany
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Bob Lewis\, Captain\, U.S. Navy\, Retired \nThe Nazi seizure of power after World War I\, with the resulting collapse of the Weimar Republic\, was the great political catastrophe of the twentieth century. The result was the unlikely ascent to dictatorship of Adolf Hitler. The story of how Germany turned from democracy to dictatorship in the fifteen years following World War I is not a simple one. And the story has disturbing resonances for our own time. How could an educated and developed country like Germany fall for Adolf Hitler? Why did democracy fall apart so quickly and completely? How did a democratic government allow Adolf Hitler to seize power? We know what this led to: the death of democracy for Germany and World War II. To say that Hitler was elected is too simple. He never would have come to power if Germany’s leading politicians had not responded to a spate of populist insurgencies by trying to co-opt him—a strategy based on misguided conservative politicians. This is a powerful lesson for today when democracy once again finds itself embattled and the siren song of strongmen sounds even louder.

Similar to our previous two sales\, we will have wildflowers\, shrubs\, grasses\, and more. All plant material comes as plugs. We also have seeds to buy and supplies! \nAll of our native plant varieties are straight species\, meaning that no cultivars will be sold. It has been found that cultivars often do not have the same benefits to wildlife that straight species do. Our focus on native species will help our native pollinators\, increase biodiversity\, and conserve our native plants and animals—among other benefits. \nWe will not be selling any non-native bulbs. We hope those of you who are traditional gardeners will buy our native plants\, as they can be just as gorgeous. Unlike tulips\, daffodils\, and other non-native ornamentals\, native plants provide food\, shelter and nesting material for local pollinators\, birds and other wildlife. DESCRIPTION:The second annual Bikeway Block Party\, on Sunday\, Sept 14. from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, is a vibrant outdoor festival all along the Minuteman Bikeway with a wide variety of interactive activities and musical performances\, including dancing\, yoga\, arts and crafts\, and more! Anyone can participate and it’s all free! Park locations along the Bikeway in Arlington\, Lexington\, and Bedford will host a variety of performances and activities: In Arlington at Whittemore Park\, and Uncle Sam Plaza; in Lexington at Bow Street\, Tower Park\, Emery Park\, and Revolution Hall; and in Bedford at the Bedford Depot.  \nThe event offers family-friendly activities with an art station and giant bubbles at each park\, and an assortment of interactive performances including yoga with harp accompaniment\, BollyX dancing\, and sea chanty singalongs\, as well as some great bands: reggae\, brass\, classic rock\, and more!  \nFor a schedule of performers and activities at each park\, go to www.bikewayblockparty.org.
