SUMMARY:Lexington Tea Burning Reenactment

Join us for fun\, interactive activities to learn more about why tea was so important to the Revolution. Meet with the Lexington residents of 1773 to hear their side of the story\, find out where tea comes from\, and end the day by gathering around the fire and burning the tea!\n\nMore information coming soon!

SUMMARY:Becoming Janet: Finding Myself in the Holocaust
DESCRIPTION:On September 1\, 1939\, when Germany invaded Poland\, with nowhere to run or hide\, Gustawa Singer’s parents gave her away to save her life. For the next several years\, 7-year-old Gustawa lived a clandestine existence\, harboring a secret that her looks hid so well: she was Jewish. Passed between strangers with both honorable and deceitful intentions\, Gustawa maneuvered through terrifying situations with only the identity papers of a deceased Polish girl and a well-rehearsed cover story. She came to learn the importance of secrecy and resilience. Her quick wits and the courage of a few virtuous individuals combined to beat the odds. By the end of the war\, over 90% of her town’s Jews were annihilated; Janet was one of the few children to return. \nOn Monday\, December 8 at Brookhaven at Lexington\, 1010 Waltham Street\, Janet will discuss her book and tell her personal story. Free and open to the public\, this event is sponsored by the Lexington Veterans Association.  The program starts with coffee and conversation at 12:45 pm\, with the talk at 1:15 pm.  If you plan to attend via Zoom\, find the Zoom link at lexmavets.com.

SUMMARY:Book Chat: Washington and Hamilton: The Alliance that Forged America
DESCRIPTION:The paternal relationship between George Washington and Alexander Hamilton captivated the nation in the musical Hamilton\, but the true story of the tumultuous duo goes much further. Washington and Hamilton: The Alliance that Forged America by Stephen K. Knott and Tony Williams shows two opposing forces\, one stoic\, the other ambitious\, represented the complexities of the new America. Together they worked together to achieve an equilibrium that would benefit an equally complex nation\, fighting side by side to fend off detractors and lay the groundwork for modern politics. Join us for a discussion\, leader TBD\, about these equally enigmatic founding fathers!\n\n\n  \nReading Into History: Book Chats is a series of informal discussions of historical topics inspired by nonfiction history books\, and led by authors\, historians\, and local history enthusiasts. All are welcome; reading the book is not required\, but will enhance the experience! Dates are subject to change given speaker availability\, and discussion leaders will be clearly identified in the event description when solidified.\n  \n\n  \n$10 members\, $15 nonmembers\n  \nRegistration coming soon!
