SUMMARY:A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music”
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, May 6th\, Jon and Li Waterman will perform “A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music” for Cary Memorial Library. The program will be held at the Lexington Community Center at 39 Marrett Rd. in Westborough at 7:00 pm. The program consists of original songs and history and explores some of the fascinating characters and events at the roots of the blues\, country\, rock\, and other genres of American popular music. The show also touches on the darker side of American popular music as well as how music helps shape our identity as a people. Songwriters and musicians\, Jon and Li Waterman have performed their music and history programs in venues throughout New England as part of a series called Live Music Making History Live. The series was designed to encourage the celebration and exploration of history through music. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Lexington Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency.

DESCRIPTION:New attention from historians and journalists is raising pointed questions about the founding period: was the American Revolution waged to preserve slavery\, and was the Constitution a pact with slavery or a landmark in the antislavery movement? Leaders of the Founding who called for American liberty are scrutinized for enslaving Black people themselves: George Washington consistently refused to recognize the freedom of those who escaped his Mount Vernon plantation. And we have long needed a history of the founding that fully includes Black Americans in the Revolutionary protests\, the war\, and the debates over slavery and freedom that followed. SUMMARY:Liberty is Sweet: The Hidden History of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Cary Library\n\nIn Woody Holton’s  “hidden history” of the American Revolution\, nothing is quite what it seems. The phrase “Liberty is Sweet” sounds like the sentiments of Jefferson or Franklin\, but actually comes from a 1775 letter describing George Washington’s slaves’ aspirations to escape Mount Vernon. Holton entitled his preface “Invisible Enemies” in a nod to the Native Americans who were long omitted from the story of American Independence but played a crucial role in bringing on the Revolutionary War and shaping its course. And these are far from the only surprises in Holton’s astounding reappraisal of the founding of the United States. Participants will be trained by members of the Lexington Minute Men or His Majesty’s 10th Regiment of Foot before getting the chance to march onto the historic Lexington Battle Green and reenact the first battle of the American Revolution. Guardians are encouraged to drop off their children for training and return to view the battle reenactment. After the battle\, participants will have a chance to interact with members of both the Lexington Minute Men and His Majesty’s 10th Regiment.\n\nChoose from 10:00 – 11:15 am or 12:30 – 1:45 pm.\n\n$10 per child with pre-registration\, or $15 day of (if available).\n\nTickets will be available at 12:00 am on February 1.

SUMMARY:Track & Field Elemntary School Winter Clinic
DESCRIPTION:In an effort to make the sport we love accessible to kids of all ages\, the Lexington High School Track & Field team hosts an annual spring clinic for elementary school aged kids. \nThe clinic offers participants the opportunity to experience a fun\, pressure free environment to train with the LHS coaches and work directly with our student-athletes. At the clinic we play games\, work on some track & field specific events\, and finish the clinic with a track meet and prizes. Just as important\, our clinics provide an opportunity for the high school students to work with and mentor the next generation of kids in Track & Field.
