SUMMARY:Traditional Indigenous beading workshop
DESCRIPTION:Please join Beadesigner International (BDI) at a traditional Indigenous beading workshop on Nov. 22\, from 11:30-2:30 at the Lexington Community Center. BDI welcomes Mishki Thompson\, the artist behind Red Fern’s BOWtique and a member of the Narragansett Tribe. With her creative and youthful flair\, she merges the contemporary with the traditional\, specializing in hair bows\, beaded earrings\, and ornaments. We will be learning two beading techniques to complete a piece that can be used as a pendant\, key chain\, pin\, etc. Mishki will also be sharing a brief history on Indigenous beading and her own story of how she got started. Most importantly\, she will share the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. All supplies are included in the cost of the workshop ($30). Scholarships are available for youth ages 12 and up who face barriers to accessing this workshop\, with priority given to Indigenous youth.
