SUMMARY:LexHAB Raises Awareness of Affordable Housing Through Art with ‘HOME’ Exhibit and Events: Fundraiser October 23
DESCRIPTION:LexHAB invites the community to a series of events at LexArt’s Nye Gallery (130 Waltham Street) to celebrate and support affordable housing. ‘HOME’ is a juried art exhibit focused on the role of housing in our lives: while shelter is a basic need\, a house can be a haven or a nightmare\, a nest can be empty or overcrowded\, a home can be unattainable or inhabitable. A collaboration between LexHAB and LexArt\, the exhibit opens October 11 and runs through November 2. \nAs part of the exhibit\, LexHAB is hosting a fundraiser at the gallery on Oct. 23\, 6-8:30 p.m. This casual\, elegant event will include appetizers\, wine\, beer and mocktails among unique and creative interpretations of ‘home’ by New England artists. A portion of all art sales benefit LexHAB’s affordable housing. Tickets are available at lexhab.org. \nThe fundraising event’s schedule includes a talk by exhibit juror\, Anne Marie Stein\, about her powerful project\, Upscale Newton (upscalenewton.com)\, which examines the impact of teardowns and redevelopment in her community. LexHAB will present its annual Community Builder Award to Tiffany Payne\, a LexHAB resident\, for her outstanding advocacy for affordable housing as a member of the Affordable Housing Trust. \nThe event will also feature a raffle with prizes generously donated by area businesses\, including gift cards for spa services at Bella Sante Spa\, art at Galaray House\, plants at House 403\, and golf at Stone Meadow\, along with gift baskets crafted by beloved local businesses and tickets to see the Boston Bruins. Every ticket purchased supports LexHAB’s efforts to build a more inclusive Lexington. \n“We’re thrilled to bring people together through art to celebrate the importance of ‘home’ — security\, community\, and belonging — while raising awareness that these things are increasingly out of reach for too many in our town\,” said Sarah Morrison\, LexHAB’s Executive Director. “This event is a chance to support both local artists and our vital housing initiatives.” \nA lively and informative panel discussion\, “How Much Housing is Enough: Lexington’s Housing Needs\,” closes out the multidisciplinary housing-focused series on Oct. 30 from 5-7 p.m.  Panelists include Lexington residents and housing experts from Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies\, Lexington’s Housing Partnership Board\, the Affordable Housing Trust and more. \nDon’t miss these opportunities to enjoy great art\, engaging conversation and generous community spirit — all for a cause that helps make Lexington a home for everyone. \nLexHAB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate-income households in Lexington.
