SUMMARY:Bike Rodeo (K-8) FREE!
DESCRIPTION:A Bike Rodeo is a fun\, hands-on way to learn how to handle a bike safely through a variety of different stations and an obstacle course. \nParticipants will have helmets and bikes checked for proper fit\, maintenance\, and safety\, followed by brief group instruction\, practicing their bike handling and safety knowledge. Participants will earn a Certificate of Achievement at the end. There will be lots of fun\, interactive\, and educational stations to stop at along the way! \nParticipants should bring a rideable bike\, wear closed-toed shoes\, and have a helmet. Free helmets will be available in case your child needs one\, courtesy of the Boston Children’s Injury Prevention Program. \nExpect to spend about one hour at the Rodeo. (We sign people up in 30-minute segments for traffic-flow purposes). You will check in\, then visit all the stations\, then proceed to the obstacle course\, before checking out and getting your Certificate and goody bag. The obstacle course portion is about 30 minutes long\, and completing all the other stations may take 30+ minutes depending on how much time you spend at each (helmet fit\, bike fit\, bike maintenance check\, helmet decorating\, hand signals\, road safety\, etc.). Parents/guardians must stay on-site with their children during this event and are encouraged to check out each station!  \nRAIN DATE will be Saturday\, June 7\, if necessary\, same times/location. \nMany THANKS to FRIENDS OF LEXINGTON BIKEWAYS for their sponsorship and support of this event\, and thank you to Lexington Cycle\, Battle Road Bikes\, and our many volunteers!

SUMMARY:Fauna and Flora of Arlington’s Great Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Arlington’s Great Meadow features meadows\, wetlands\, and woods within its borders. Over 675 trees\, plants\, insects\, mammals\, and more have been documented on iNaturalist to date. We’ll share observations and insights of AGM’s natural communities\, a changing mixture of native and introduced organisms\, with a focus on taking a closer look at wildflowers and insects. \nWear long pants and have bug repellent in reserve; bring magnifiers if you have them. Meet at the end of Emerson Gardens Road off Maple Street in Lexington. Public parking is available just past the entrance to Lexington Meadow townhomes. SUMMARY:Cantemus Presents "I Hear America Singing"
DESCRIPTION:Cantemus Chamber Chorus\, with 41 members from across the North Shore\, will present two May concerts in Beverly and Newburyport titled “I Hear America Singing.”  The Chorus includes two choral interns from Lexington High School\,  Medha Jayendran and Chris Yoo\, as well as Lexington High School’s Director of Choruses\, Jason Iannuzzi\, Cantemus’s Artistic Director. \nFeaturing African-American Spirituals and music by Charles Ives\, Aaron Copland\, Rosephanye Powell\, Charlene Archibeque\, Cecil Effinger\, Bob Dylan\, and more\, texts for “I Hear America Singing” are by American poets Walt Whitman\, Emily Dickinson\, Langston Hughes\, and others. \nThe concerts will explore what it means to be American – the American Landscape\, the American Dream\, Songs of Protest\, Songs of the American Diaspora\, Songs on American Poetry\, and finally ask: The American Dream Restored? \nJoining the Chorus will be guitarist Chris Rubén-Winters and oboist Benjamin Fox.  Rubén-Winters draws from deep roots in jazz\, salsa\, and classical music\, and his playing has enriched performances of multiple Massachusetts choral groups.  Fox’s versatility and virtuosity have been showcased in a variety of venues\, from Carnegie Hall to Honolulu nightclubs.  He is the Principal Oboist of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and holds the same position with the Marsh Chapel Collegium. \nIn addition\, Cantemus accompanist Jeffrey Mead will be joined by Cantemus singer and pianist Patricia Clark in Charles Ives’ “Variations on America.”  Solo work and ensembles will be featured throughout the varied program. \nThe concerts will take place in Beverly on Saturday\, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church\, 4 Ocean St.\, and in Newburyport on Sunday\, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, 166 High St. \nCantemus’ Artistic Director Jason Iannuzzi said: “In fraught times\, music can be a healing balm. It can also provide a means for us to process difficult emotions.
