SUMMARY:Envisioning a Smarter Waste Collection System for Lexington
DESCRIPTION:Waste costs are rising\, definitions of “trash” are changing\, and trash incineration continues contributing to climate change. Join the next event in a series of community forums as we work to envision a smarter waste system for Lexington. \nForums will feature information on: \n\nLexington’s current waste stream\nExternal influences on a waste system\nWaste reduction strategies\nMaking waste reduction strategies work in Lexington\n\nThere will be time for questions after each presentation. We’ve compiled an informational graphic on waste reduction\, outlining the current state of Lexington’s waste collection system and what strategies we could employ to support our waste reduction goals.

SUMMARY:Native Ferns and Wildflowers for Shade Gardens with Leslie Duthie
DESCRIPTION:Shade can be a problem when you garden. It seems like so many plants are sun lovers\, what is a gardener to do? This program will focus on native plants\, ferns\, and flowers\, that grow well in shade and make great combinations to brighten up the darker parts of any garden. \nLeslie Duthie is a retired ecological horticulturist. She worked for over 45 years with native plants\, growing\, planting\, and caring for many native species. She has a wealth of experience to share with audiences and is always willing to provide advice and tips on growing native species (they evolved here\, they are the easiest to grow!). Leslie is the president of the Opacum Land Trust\, serves on the board of the Ecological Landscape Alliance\, and volunteers in her spare time at the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill.
