DESCRIPTION:“Highway 49” will perform on the steps of Church of Our Redeemer\, 6 Meriam St. from 2:00-3:30 PM during Lexington Porchfest on Saturday\, September 30\, 2023. (See www.lexartscouncil.org › porchfestporchfest2023 – Lexington Council for the Arts) \nThe “Highway 49” band\, formed in 2009\, is a group of six talented musicians who will delight you with their tight covers of classic rock songs from the 50s\, 60s\, 70s and 80s\, including songs from Elton John\, Carol King\, The Beatles\, Eagles\, Van Morrison\, The Drifters\, Jefferson Airplane\, Fleetwood Mac\, The Pretenders\, and many other artists. Original members Murray Daniels on keyboards and Randy Bowlby\, bass guitar have been playing with the band and singing together from the start at private parties and social events in the Greater Lexington area. The group has really hit its stride in recent years with vocalists Linda Kukolich and Karen Daniels\, greatly adding to the variety and richness of the band’s repertoire. Driving guitar rhythms from Steve Kukolich and Rick Tedesco\, on drums\, will have you on your feet! \nSeveral Highway 49 members also play and sing in the Redeemer church band at selected services and special events.

Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL) and A Joyful Adult Healthcare Center (Joyful ADH) will co-host a celebration of this important cultural heritage in Cary Hall on September 30th\, 2023. SUMMARY:Piano Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:A long-time Lexington resident and a pianist\, Wha Kyung Byun has taught at the New England Conservatory (NEC) for over 40 years with her husband\, Russell Sherman. As a pianist\, her playing has been described “rapturous” and “poetic” (Boston Globe). Wha Kyung dedicated herself to helping numerous outstanding students\, and her devotion to education has been recognized with many prestigious awards. \nAnother Lexington resident and Wha Kyung’s student\, HaeSun Paik has been hailed as a “sensitive and thinking musician with stunning virtuosity” (Los Angeles Times) and a “big and individual personality” (New York Times). She has won top prizes at international piano competitions including the Queen Elisabeth and the Tchaikovsky. \nKorean Cultural Society of Boston (KCSB) headquartered in Lexington proudly presents “Piano Extravaganza” featuring not only these two magnificent pianists but also four other world-class pianists\, Jung-Ja Kim\, Minsoo Sohn\, Chanyong Shin\, and Hannah Byun. They represent three generations of pianists: Jung-Ja and Wha Kyung the first generation\, HaeSun and Minsoo the second\, and Chanyong and Hannah the third. \nThis concert showcases a rare program of all four-hand and two-piano works.
